The leaves are showing signs of age and the wind blows a little harder as the evenings start to roll in a bit earlier than before. That’s right, it’s Autumn once again! In many parts of the Northern Hemisphere, people have already closed or at least have begun to close their pools. But what about those states where you leave your pool open during the winter months? Well, if you’re using Waters Choice pool enzymes, then year-round care and maintenance is so easy!
4 Simple Steps to Easy Year-Round Pool Care
With Waters Choice enzymes, taking care of your pool is easy. Whether you close your pool and the weather is pleasantly mild or it’s cold and harsh, enzymes do the dirty work, taking care of your pool all year.
For use with our Pool Enzyme Concentrates: If your pool heater is off, the water temperature is cooler, there are fewer people using the pool, and you are just circulating the water, then add 1 oz per 10,000 gallons every six weeks.
If you are using a heater and keeping the water warmer, add enzymes as you normally would during the summer season at .5 oz. per 10,000 gallons every week. Remember, one of the biggest benefits of using enzymes is that they allow you to drastically reduce the amount of chemicals normally used in a traditional system.
Continue testing pH and alkalinity throughout the season and adjust as needed. These two things can cause problems with your equipment if they become unbalanced so, be sure to check them periodically and keep them balanced.
Keep your filter clean and vacuum as usual. Even though you are probably using your swimming pool less frequently during the winter months, if at all, it is still important to maintain a cleaning routine. Empty debris traps every few days to prevent leaves and rubbish from building up and clogging your pool’s filtration system.
Monitor Water level
Due to evaporation, you may need to add water. As rainfall decreases and chilly days become more common, the water in your pool will begin to evaporate. Don’t be surprised if your water level drops one or two inches per week. To prevent your pool’s water level from getting too low, monitor it and add water as needed.
One huge advantage over the northern states is not needing to “winterize” your pool. You can even enjoy your well-maintained pool throughout the winter. Have a blast using your pool all year round, even when it’s chilly out!
