Let Spa Water Enzymes Be The Tool That Works For You!

“Wooden hot tubs are making a comeback due to the product’s sustainability” -Ghelerter

Putting a sustainable, handcrafted and unique wooden hot tub in your backyard will make your backyard oasis look more natural.  According to a recent article in SpaRetailer magazine customers like having the choice between acrylic and wood when it comes to their hot tubs and swim spas. “While the western red cedar is a favorite among customers, the Alaskan yellow cedar and teak tubs have also become popular,” says Ghelerter.

Believe it or not these types of cedar hot tubs are made to order and known for their ability to resist decay and moisture.

Sustainably Sourced Wood

As a matter of fact, wood for these hot tubs usually come from sustainably sourced wood mills. According to the magazine article, customer favorites are western red cedar as well as Alaskan yellow cedar and teak wood tubs. However, just like acrylic hot tubs, customers must patiently wait for their wooden tub to be manufactured as most are hand crafted and made to order.

Wooden Tubs Aren't a New Concept

The concept of soaking in a wooden tub isn’t new.  The Japanese appreciated the beauty of wooden bathtubs, called ofuros. They often installed them in their homes. Created for soaking, their construction methods are thousands of years old. Notably, the 1960’s saw an increased use of wooden tubs created from discarded wine barrels and vats however, they often leaked water or got moldy.

But Wait! What?

With that said, something didn’t quite sit right with us at Waters Choice. The article stated that wood hot tubs don’t require constant sanitation. The author of the article went on to say that the owner of a wooden hot tub cannot keep any kind of sanitizer in the water 24/7 because it would eat through the walls. He also stated that as long as you take care of the water in the barrel, the wood pretty much takes care of itself.

What does that mean? Read on …

Enzymes - Making Water Safe

In our opinion, the author was correct in stating that the pH still needed to be managed. Unbalanced water is often the source of a variety of issues with hot tub water. However again, in our opinion, it’s NOT SAFE to forgo any kind of water treatment. The great news is that these sustainable wooden hot tubs are a perfect fit to our Pure Enzymes for Spas water care system!

You see, adding enzymes to your water is like taking vitamins to boost your immune system. With enzymes in your spa water, a healthy living environment is established allowing you to use less chemicals. Many of the chemicals used hot tubs (wooden or acrylic) are harsh and cause our skin and hair to dry out, our eyes to burn, and give off strong odors.

When we add enzymes, eliminate some chemicals, and cut back on others, these problems go away, and many positive things happen. For example water becomes softer, your hair will not turn green and your equipment will last longer.

Tip: With 20 years of developing enzymes, our formulas have been proven. Follow our recommended dosages for optimum performance.
