Aquatic Exercise

It's safe to say that the natural properties of water include buoyancy, support and resistance so you can get the best out of your soak and workout. Aquatic exercise equipment will help you change the way you exercise. Did you know that there are swim spa fitness systems that include resistance tubing and rowing bars? How about dumbbells and ankle fins? Additional accessories are also available to make your investment in a swim spa worth it.

Water Aerobics

Water aerobics in your swim spa are a very popular type of exercise for people with joint pain or recovering from surgery.  Exercising in your water is an effective way to improve your fitness, build strength and increase your mobility without the impact of land based activities. Enjoy a challenging workout and add variety to your routine without risking injury. The buoyancy of water eliminates the stress on your joints and water resistance makes even the equipment free moves harder.

Resistance Tubing

Resistance tubing can be used for upper body and core exercises while challenging your balance and coordination. You can do these exercises easily while in your swim spa:

  • standing row and variations
  • chest presses
  • tricep etensions
  • overhead press
  • bicep curls

Rowing Bars

Rowing bars clip to the side of your swim spa and make rowing and chest presses easy.  Bars are used mostly for cardiovascular or strength based exercises.

Aquatic Dumbbells

Dumbbells can be used for many levels or exercise in your swim spa and are ideal for general fitness, strength, speed and endurance. Not to mention that some feature a paddle design which catches the water and maximizes the resistance of the water. Check out these exercises you can do using dumbbells.

  • bicep curls
  • chest press
  • front raise
  • tricep pushdown

Pool Barbell

Additionally, targeting your upper body and core, while improving your range of motion with bicep curls, front raise, and chest presses make using barbells a great benefit. Of course, barbells designed for water aerobic exercises can be great for strength training exercises.

Ankle Fins

Ankle fins are ideal for resistance conditioning, whether you call them cuffs or fins.  These help target your lower body.

Kickboard

Most think of swimming drills when discussing kickboards. But they are great for creating resistance in the water. Use a kickboard for:

  • Single leg pushdowns
  • chest press
  • core rotations
  • kicking drills

Underwater Punching Bags

Have you heard of these? Sounds like a fantastic way to get a workout and have fun at the same time! With an underwater punching bag kicking and punching your way to fitness will be fun. The bags simply float just below the surface when filled with water and can be used for aerobic and strength exercises.  The following are popular exercises using an underwater punching bag:

  • kicking
  • punching
  • throwing
  • squats
  • core rotations
  • kettlebell style swings
  • upright rows

Waters Choice Pure Enzymes for SWIM Spas

With all of that said, make sure you're using Waters Choice Pure Enzymes for SWIM Spas. Interestingly enough, you can go 3-5 years before you need to change your water or  clean and drain, it as opposed to every year with a traditional chemical system. This saves you precious time, money, and energy.  When it's time to clean and drain your swim spa, we highly recommend using our Clean & Drain to purge the plumbing.  Keep in mind that you'll need 1 tube of Clean & Drain per 500 gallons.
