Calcium buildup can literally feel like sandpaper in a hot tub. It's gritty, it's abrasive, granular, flaky, and most of all darn SCRATCHY! Have you experienced it? Do you wonder how it happens? Believe us when we tell you that it takes a lot of work to get rid of BUT it's absolutely possible.
When tackling this abrasive issue, we've found that it's easier to drain the spa and actually SCRUB the inside walls and floor with a non abrasive scrubber and vinegar. (However, make sure the weather outside is not freezing, otherwise a heat lamp MUST be placed underneith your spa)
Be Diligent and Patient
If for some reason, it's not possible to empty your spa then consistently scrubbing the inside walls and floor with your non abrasive scrubber or a simple wash cloth would be the next best way to alleviate the scratchy calcium. Remember, consistend scrubbing, washing the filter, replaceing it, then running the jets, over and over again until the walls and floor of your spa feel smooth and the abrasive calcium buildup is gone.
This can actually take multiple days but being diligent and with a little patience, you can accomplish what you once though impossible.

HOW Does Calcium Buildup Happen?
Waters Choice adamantly encourages their customers to test their water chemistry frequently, especially its pH level. Here's the thing, when pH levels are too high for too long, calcium leaches out of the spa water and adheres to the walls of your hot tub or swim spa. Before long, what you once thought of as a ittle rough will turn to grit quickly!
