Springtime Pool Opening Tips & Tricks

Swimming season is almost upon us!  Summertime swimming is one of our all time favorite activities and if you’re anything like us, you have been counting down the days until it’s warm enough to get into your pool.

Springtime Pool Opening

This is the time of year where we all have Spring fever and begin to think about opening our pool for the summer swim season. Even though YOU may be ready to swim, is your pool?  Read on for some helpful information to make sure your swimming pool is completely ready for the season.

Have you ever peeled back your swimming pool cover and seen green?  You can prevent this from happening.  Thankfully, if you’re using Waters Choice Pure Enzymes for Pools you’ll see crystal clear water.

But if you aren’t using our system and your pool water isn’t clear, test it, correct the pH and add chlorine.  Granted, it may take A LOT of chlorine but it should clear up your water before opening.  (And you’ll want clear water to open your pool properly)

Waters Choice Pool Enzymes

With that said, we’d like to remind you that if using Waters Choice enzymes there is no need for opening (or closing for that matter) chemicals.  This results in a HUGE savings for your pocketbook!

Pool Opening Tips and Tricks

Start with clean, clear water.  Let your chlorine level drop to .5-1 ppm chlorine.  Next balance and maintain the water’s pH and alkalinity.  Then add 2 oz of Waters Choice Pure Enzymes for Pools per 10,000 gallons for the first 2 weeks.

As a side note, our 16 ounce Enzyme pool treatment treats 10k gallons of pool water for one season. Our 32 ounce Pool Treatment treats 20k gallons of pool water for 1 season. Furthermore, we carry a 1 gallon size as well.

After the two week opening period, add ½ ounce of enzymes per 10,000 gallons of pool water every week throughout the summer swimming season.

We cannot emphasize the importance of maintaining the correct pH and alkalinity.  Because of enzyme use, these numbers will stay slightly higher and you may need to bring them down periodically.

Maintain Water pH and Alkalinity

Please maintain pH between 7.2 and 7.6 and alkalinity between 80 and 120.  In addition to this, maintain a minimum amount of chlorine.

We know winter-like weather may still rear it’s ugly head but summer is just around the corner.  You’ll be swimming and enjoying the hot temperatures before you know it!  Making sure you follow these steps will assure you that your pool will be ready to swim in when you are.
